A dynamic version of our results using Tableau® software can be found below.Feel free to contact us at info@decibio.com to request a full copy of the poster.DeciBio Poster HighlightsAbstractWe conducted an extensive review of ~1,800 peer-reviewed translational research and clinical publications from 2013 through the first half of 2016, coupled with 31 in-depth interviews with key opinion leaders to assess key trends in clinical next generation sequencing (NGS), and its use in precision health.Our research indicates that clinical NGS is in a rapid growth phase driven by adoption across many therapeutic areas, most notably oncology. Experts remain bullish on the potential of liquid biopsies, especially for therapy monitoring. Another hot topic is cancer immunotherapy. In contrast to what some experts were thinking 6 months ago, the current, clear consensus is that the uptake and label expansion of cancer immuno-therapies may actually increase the need for NGS testing, primarily for tumor mutational burden analysis and T-cell receptor sequencing.While clinical NGS adoption is exceeding even the most bullish forecasts, many institutions are unprepared to leverage the full potential of the technology, primarily due to workflow complexity, including in the front-end (i.e., sample preparation complexity compared to other fully automated methods) and the back-end (i.e., data analysis). A number of new platforms may address these issues (e.g., Ion Torrent S5, Qiagen GeneReader, Illumina MiniSeq) and compete with Illumina on dimensions other than throughput and data quality (e.g., turnaround time, sample-to-answer solutions).Illumina is expected to remain dominant in the platform market for clinical NGS with sustained innovations expected across multiple platforms within their portfolio. However, other competitors (including nanopore sequencing companies) are quickly improving and may represent a disruptive threat (using the Christiansen framework for disruptive innovation) in the next 5 years for certain niche applications based on differentiated platform attributes.Interviewee Feedback & BehaviorThe first dynamic panel highlights interviewee demographics, platforms, applications, as well as current and future sequencing volumes.The second panel below highlights the interviewee demographics, awareness and likelihood of adoption of select NGS platforms, and unmet needs.
